First ecomaterials workshop in Panama in full production

The first ecomaterials workshop in Panama, “FAMATECO”, is in full production in Santiago de Veraguas, after a visit from EcoSouth expert Benigno Dávila from Nicaraguan partner Grupo Sofonias. Benigno worked together with FAMATECO proprietor José Manuel Pérez, and over a two-week period they were able to place their knowledge in the hands of all the workshop members.

Jose Manuel purchased equipment for MCR tile and CP40 block production in 2002. Hydraulic and electric facilities were installed prior to equipment setup. During the technology transfer the cement mixer and the block-producing machine were also set into operation for the manufacture of about 1000 blocks daily. As well the tile-producing equipment was set up to produce about 200 tiles everyday.

Besides equipment setup, much emphasis was placed upon maintenance and repair of the machinery in order to achieve the highest possible productivity with the minimum deterioration.

EcoSur congratulates José Manuel Pérez and all the members of FAMATECO for the startup of the workshop in Santiago of Veragua and hopes, at the same time, that they can contribute to resolving the problem of housing for some of the country´s most needy people.
